Why Your Thoughts Feel So Scary During Motherhood

A brief self-check to help you better understand what you're experiencing.

A Simple Self Check

Read through these and note what has felt present for you in the last month

  • I get stuck in “what if” loops that I can’t turn off

  • I feel anxious about something bad happening, even when there’s no real reason

  • I find myself checking, researching, or seeking reassurance to feel better

  • I question whether I’m a “good” or safe parent because of my thoughts

  • I have thoughts that feel intrusive, disturbing, or out of character

  • I avoid certain situations because of the thoughts I’m having

  • I feel ashamed or scared to tell anyone what’s going on in my mind

  • I find myself worried about multiple areas of life, all at once

  • I feel like I have to do certain things (or avoid them) to prevent something bad from happening

What this means

If you saw yourself in 1–3:

You may be experiencing increased stress or adjustment

Support could still help you feel more grounded and an assessment would give you clarity.

If you saw yourself in 3-6 of these:

Your thoughts and nervous system may be under significant strain

At this level, talking to a provider is important and support would likely make a meaningful difference.

If you saw yourself in 6-9

These symptoms likely align with Postpartum OCD and/or Anxiety

This is not something to push through alone. The support of trained provider is important.

What this does not mean

Seeing yourself in these statements does not mean you are broken, it simply means you may need a little more support through a difficult chapter. And the truth is you deserve that care.

At Mère, you don’t have to figure this out alone.

You are not alone

If you saw yourself in this screening-the next step doesn’t need to be overwhelming. It can simply be a conversation with our clinical advocate.

A (free!) consultation where you can talk about what your experiencing, and understand what support could look like.
