HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) FAQ

What Is HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy)?

1. What is hormone replacement therapy (HRT)?

Hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, helps restore hormones (often estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone)that your body may no longer produce at the levels it once did. For many women, that happens during perimenopause or menopause. HRT can ease symptoms like hot flashes, loss of energy, mood shifts, night sweats, vaginal dryness and libido.

2. Who might benefit from HRT?

HRT can be a thoughtful option for someone navigating the overwhelming changes of midlife — if you’re experiencing moderate to intense menopausal symptoms or facing risks like bone density loss. At MÈRE, we believe in meeting you where you are. A compassionate conversation with your provider can help you decide if HRT fits your personal journey.

3. What kind of difference can HRT make?

For many, HRT brings relief and a renewed sense of balance. It can improve sleep, regulate mood, reduce physical discomfort, and in some cases support long-term bone health, helping you feel like yourself again during one of life’s big transitions.

4. What about safety risks?

HRT was once bound by a “black box” warning because of concerns around heart disease, stroke, and certain cancers. The FDA recently removed that warning—a change rooted in newer research. Still: this is deeply personal care. Whether HRT is “safe” depends on your age, your health history, and the type of treatment. That’s why we believe in individualized care: what’s right for one woman may not be for another.

5. How does someone take HRT?

There are flexible options: pills, patches, gels, creams, whatever suits your life and body. Picking the right form, dose, and schedule is something our MÉRE providers, who are attuned to the most updated recommendations can guide you through. And as always, follow-up care matters: checking in on how you feel, adjusting as needed, and making sure the treatment supports your well-being long‑term.

MÉRE is here to support you through every chapter, including perimenopause or menopause.

If you’re experiencing symptoms and would like to explore HRT, we are here to walk alongside you!
